Cheong Foh Café - Klang

After the disappointing Mee Hoon Kuih and cendol, my brother-in-law took me to Cheong Foh Café to try the famous coffee, toast and dry curry mee.

Cheong Foh Café is located at No 1 Lorong Gopeng/KU1, Dataran Ocean, 41400 Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Apparently the coffee shop is managed by the same family for over 50 years at the same spot. They are famous for coffee and homemade ‘kaya’ (coconut jam like bread spread).

I ordered Kopi Or Peng (iced coffee). I do not find the coffee special and too sweet. I still prefer the Kopi Or Peng from Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee in Section 17.

The toast is really good. Heard they also sell the kaya but it gets moldy very fast because they do not add preservative.

There are a number of stalls in the coffee shop selling noodles. Highly recommended to try the dry curry mee.

After going to 3 shops in Klang today, finally we found one that suit our taste buds :)

Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee

Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee.
Address: 14 Jalan 17/1A 46400 Petaling Jaya Selangor Malaysia.
Telephone: 60122267799

Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee was recommended by my brother-in-law's friend, "bah leh ko".

Kopi Or Peng
Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee is famous for their white coffee  (of course!) but I must say they served the best "kopi or peng" too.

Ipoh Hor Fun
Their other speciality is the Ipoh "hor fun", flat rice noodle in clear soup, chock full of delicious flavours and served with chicken strips and fish balls (made from tou fu fish), garnished with chopped spring onions and fried garlic.

Steam Chicken
Another popular item is steamed chicken which goes well with the hor fun.

Liver and Gizzard
My hubby loves the "spare parts" which also goes well with the hor fun :)

This place is usually packed and to prevent confusion, every order will be issued a queue token.

Brunch today (8pax) cost RM81.00 for the hor fun and chicken and RM12.00 for the coffees.

Loong Foong Hong Kong Roast Duck

My sister has been telling me Loong Foong Hong Kong Roast duck is very good, even better than Sunrise's.

Today, my hubby and I decided to try them out. We arrived at around 7pm and the restaurant was already very crowded and there was a long queue at the roast duck stall.

Found a table right at the side of the roast duck stall and waited for half an hour before dinner was served but I must say, no regret. The duck rice is worth waiting for.

Roast Duck
We ordered only roast duck and it came with special chilly sauce (similar to those served with chicken rice) and special duck sauce. The special duck sauce is great with white rice.

Will definitely come back :) Even thought they are very busy, the servers were very polite.

Loong Foong Hong Kong Roast Duck is located at No:1, Jalan 20/13, Paramount Garden, 46300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Jing Too Restaurant - Kg. Bahru Sepang

Last Sunday, before heading home from our food hunt excursion to Klang and Tg. Sepat, we stopped at Jing Too Restaurant for dinner . We did not know what was good to eat in Sepang. So we asked around and was recommended by a local to try Jing Too Restaurant.

Sea Cucumber with Bamboo Shoot
We asked the captain to recommend their (Hock Chiew's) famous dishes. First dish, sea cucumber with bamboo shoot. Sounded great but we were disappointed to see the good ingredients (costing RM70) cooked in tomato sauce.

Chicken in Chinese Wine
Next dish, chicken in Chinese wine (RM15). Hmmm....not too bad but the portion was a little too big as only 3 adults are taking this dish.

Mantis with Salted Eggs
Mantis with salted eggs (RM18) is the star of the night. Everyone loves this dish.

Taufoo
The other two dishes, taufoo (RM12) and stir fried kangkung (RM8) are also not something we will shout about.

Jing Too Restaurant is located at 261, Kg. Bharu Sepang, 43900 Selangor. TEL: 603 31421740.

Hai Yew Heng - Tanjung Sepat

Hai Yew Heng
I've heard alot about Tanjung Sepat "mui choy" pau and last Sunday, after Bak Kut Teh lunch at Taman Berkeley, Klang, we drove to Tanjung Sepat to try the famous pau.

Hai Yew Heng is located at 405, Jalan Pasar, 42800 Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Langat, Selangor.
TEL: 603 31974144, 6012 2729009
Business Hour: 1.00pm to 6.00pm daily and public holiday from 10.00am

Pau Menu
They sells six types of Hainanese pau (1) sang yoke or fresh meat (2) mui choy or preserved vegetables (3) tau sar or mashed sweetened bean paste (4) kaya or coconut jam (5) fah sang or peanut paste (6) chai or vegetarian.

Hai Yew Heng operates 2 shops; one shop where they make the pau and the other where you can eat in with drinks and some fried snacks. This place was endorsed by Hong Kong gourmet king (the fat guy promoting food outlets) and is very popular with local tourists. When we arrived, there were a few tour buses and the place was crowded.

Hai Yew Heng logo
To ensure that you are buying the original Hai Yew Heng's pau, we were told to look out for the printed Hai Yew Heng design on the pau paper. Apparently there are many imitators since they became famous.

Fried Sancks and Toh Kuey
While waiting for our takeaway,  we ordered some fried snacks, "mui choy" and "sang yok" pau to go with coffee.

Kwo Zha B Coffee
The coffee is a must try and if you like it, you can buy the coffee beans from Kwo Zha B Coffee, which is just a few doors away.

Fried Ice Cream
At the corner of the pau outlets, you can also try "fried ice cream". Each "fried ice cream" cost RM2.50 and comes in a few flavours. I tried the durian flavour and it's yummy. Must try.

Having tasted the pau from Hai Yew Heng and Klang Food Centre, I'll go for the pau from Klang Food Centre as they offer more varieties, their pau is tastier and nearer home :)

Chai Kuey - Restaurant Chua Siang Yean, Taman Kenari

Last week when I was back at my hometown, Dad showed me an article on chai kuey, written by the Chinese newspaper, Kwong Wah Jit Poh.

We have lived in Kulim for a long time but we never knew that Restaurant Chua Siang Yean (located at 212, Jalan Kenari 2, Taman Kenari) is famous for chai kuey. The only place we knew selling chai kuey is in Kelang Lama but I'm not a fan of their chai kuey as the skin is soggy.

Chai kuey before it's steamed
The next morning, after doing marketing at the wet market near the restaurant, Dad and I drop in to buy chai kuey (takeaway).

When we arrived at the shop, the boss was busy making the chai kuey which was steamed on the spot. They make 4 types of chai kuey;

Kucai (Chives) Chai Kuey
Kucai (chives) chai kuey

Sengkuang Chai Kuey
Sengkuang (turnip) chai kuey and sengkuang with chinese pasley chai kuey

Yam with ground peanut Chai Kuey
Yam with ground peanut chai kuey

We bought 3 pieces of each for breakfast. My favourites are the sengkuang and yam with ground peanut chai kuey. The chai kuey skin is very Q and the fillings very tasty.

Will definitely go back the next time I'm back at my hometown.

Esquire Kitchen

Esquire Kitchen
ATRIA SHOPPING
Lot 10 & 11, Ground Floor,
Jalan SS 22 / 23, Damansara Jaya,
47400 Petaling Jaya

Esquire Kitchen has been around in KL for a long time. Dining in Esquire Kitchen reminds me of my experience with Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong and San Francisco Chinatown....poor service, rude waiters and waitresses.

Stir Fried French Beans
Each time we dine in, we tell ourselves that this will be the last meal but somehow, we will go back when we have forgotten about the service or when we crave for their specialties...."soft and fluffy" Flower Buns, 'Tung Po Meat', Stir Fried French Beans and Shanghainese Wo Tip.

Tung Po Meat
Tung Po Meat is a must try! Succulent slices of meat intricately cooked and fused with Chef’s special sauce. Great with the soft and fluffy Flower Buns or white rice.

Tofu
"Cooked from the Heart, serve from the Soul"?

I can only agree that food is cooked from the Heart as their food is yummy, especially the Tung Po Meat but serve from the Soul? Nay....service really sucks in all the outlets that I've been to...Sungai Wang, Bandar Utama as well as Atria.

FU KUA RESTAURANT 苦瓜潮洲菜馆

FU KUA RESTAURANT 苦瓜潮洲菜馆
Unit 19, Jalan SS23/15,
Taman S.E.A.,
47400, Petaling Jaya
GPS Location : N3 06.971 E101 36.736
Business Hour : 11am to 3pm and 5.30pm to 11pm

Bitter gourd or Fu Kua (Cantonese) has a lot of advantages and this restaurant sells everything bitter gourd including drinks. My hubby is not a fan of bitter gourd so we seldom patronize this restaurant. Today is one of the days when my hubby will entertain me and agree to have a "fu kua" dinner.

Fu Kua with Honey
I ordered the fu kua with honey drink while my hubby happily stick to his Coke. The fu kua with honey is a bit bitter unlike the ones I had in Taiwan. My first disappointment for the night.

Fu Kua with Pork Knuckle
We ordered fu kua with salted egg and fu kua with pork knuckle to go with rice. Both the dishes are also not up to our expectation. Another disappointment.

Fu Kua with Salted Egg
So sad because after tonight's experience, my hubby may not entertain me and go back to the restaurant. We used to order their famous siew yok and fu kua with fish but today, we decided to order something different. Wrong decision sob...sob...sob. Our disappointing meal cost RM47.50.

Kedai Kopi Kwong Hong - Gunung Rapat Ipoh

Kedai Kopi Kwong Hong
Jalan Gunung Rapat (opposite Gunung Rapat wet market)
31350 Gunung Rapat, Ipoh.

Yong Tau Foo
Last week, my family went back to Kulim for "Cheng Beng". On the way back to KL, we stopped at Gunung Rapat Ipoh for dinner.

More Yong Tau Foo
We wanted something light and ended up at Kwong Hong for noodles and yong tau foo.

More Yong Tau Foo
We ordered 2 different types of yong tau foo, soupy and fried stuffs. Both also taste good but the "must try" are the vegetable (water crest and lettuce) yong tau foo. Cannot get these in KL/Ampang.

Pan Mee
Sis and I share a bowl of pan mee. The soup is very tasty (cooked with lots of ikan bilis). Yum Yum.

The hor fun soup and hor fun kon lou are not bad too but I would highly recommend the pan mee.

Chok Chea
Apart from tasty yong tau foo and pan mee, their "leong fun" and "chok chea" drink are also highly recommended - must try!

Leong Fun

巴生小食馆 Restoran Klang Food Centre

I was in Hock Lai Bak Kut Teh with some friends and after breakfast, my friend's hubby introduces me to 巴生小食馆 Restoran Klang Food Centre
10, Jln Batai Laut 5,
Taman Intan, Klang,
Selangor, Malaysia
Telephone : 603-3342 8122
GPS Coordinate : N3 03.354 E101 28.354

Making of  Char Siew Pau
This restaurant is well-known for its delicious hand made pau (steamed Chinese bun). They sells many different types of pau including big curry pau, big pork pau, braised pork pau, char siew pau, lotus paste pau and vegetable pau.

Their signature's dish is big curry pau, made by wrapping the fillings in an aluminium foil plate and wrapping it again with pau skin before steaming.

Khau Yok Pau
What caught my attention was not their signature chicken pau but the unique mui choi pau and the khau yok pau. This is my first time eating mui choi pau and khau yok pau.

I bought 10 pieces of mui choi pau, 10 pieces of khau yok pau and 7 pieces of sang yok pau to share with my sister who loves hand made pau.

Mui Choi Pau
Thumbs up for both the mui choi and khau yok pau. The pau skin is so soft and the fillings are not too salty or oily. According to my brother-in-law, it is better than the ones in Tanjung Sepat.

Sang Yok Pau
I did not try the sang yok pau as it's for my nephew and I do not really fancy sang yok pau.

I will definitely come back to this place for pau!

2011 Johnsonians' (combination of current and ex) CNY gatherings (both with the Operations team and Sales/Marketing/Supply Chain/Finance team) were held at Oriental Pavilion. The Operations gathering was on Feb.10th and the Sales/Marketing/Supply Chain/Finance gathering was on Feb.12th.

With the Operations' team, we had only 7 pax. Raymond ordered the set menu for 8 pax. We start the night with "lou sang".

新 年 齐 捞 生 (三文鱼捞生)
Salmon Yee Sang

金 玉 满 华 堂 (原盅蟹皇鱼翅
Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Crabroe
The braised shark's fin soup is super delicious. I really love this dish.

黄 金 拼 盘 (盆满砵满)
Deluxe BBQ Delicacies Combination Platter
This dish is a combination of char siew, siew yuk, lou chicken and tofu. The tofu is yummy. It is the smoothest tofu I've tasted so far. The cucumber is pickled and goes well with the meat.

新 岁 贺 有 余 (味噌焗白吞拿鱼)
Baked White Tuna Fish with Miso Sauce
This dish is not up to expectation. The fish was hard, maybe overcooked.

贺 岁 嘻 哈 笑 (生虾河粉汤)
Fresh Water Prawns with ‘Hor Fun’ in Superior Soup
By the time, we come to this dish, we (the ladies) were all very full. We shared one bowl and have the other bowls packed for take-away. The hor fun is very delicious but we were already very full.

新 春 贺 喜 庆 (山洛芦荟冻)
Chilled Sweetened Aloe-Vera  and  Longan.

Because ours an eight pax dinner, we also had an extra tofu with mushroom dish.

With the Sales/Marketing/Supply Chain/Finance group, which was much bigger (total of 3 tables), we had:

新 年 齐 捞 生 (三文鱼捞生)
Salmon Yee Sang

生 意 展 翅 飞 (火筒鸡炖勾翅) (每人每)
Double-Boiled Coral Shark’s Fin Soup with Chicken
This soup dish is very good.

双 宝 齐 贺 岁 (皇子鸭伴荤蹄)
Baby Duck with Trotter
The duck meat goes very well with the plum sauce and there is a special sauce for the trotter. Very tasty.

年 年 庆 有 余 (客家蒸河巴丁)
Steamed River Patin ‘Hakka’ Style
The steam fish is delicious.

贺 岁 献 宝 盆 (鲍鱼菌豆根扣鹅掌)
Braised Goose Web with Dried Scallop, Lingzhi Mushroom & Gluten
Eating the goose web with chopsticks is very messy but the taste is really good.

春 天 庆 丰 收 (春天腊味珍珠饭)
Steamed Glutinous Rice with Wax Meat
Not bad.

新 春 贺 喜 庆 (蜜瓜西米露)
Chilled Honeydew with Sago

双 星 齐 新 年 (花生糕伴豆沙窝饼)
Peanut Cake & Red Bean Paste Pancake
The peanut cake is really good. Not too sweet but full of flavour. Really enjoyed it.

Another year of great gatherings with fellow Johnsonians (both current and ex).
