myElephant - Happy Mansion PJ

myElephant is at C-G-4 Happy Mansion, Jalan 17/13, Section 17, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia
TEL: 6010 2201283

myElephant is located in the opposite block from 6 to 10. The place is very cozy and they serve healthy authentic Thai food.

Pandan Cooler
We ordered Pandan Cooler (RM3/glass). Very refreshing...pandan leaves (pine screw) boiled in water and served with some black seeds (don't know what it's called).

Seafood Tom Ka
The seafood tom ka is great. The soup is chock full with mushrooms, galangal, lemongrass, tomatoes and coriander. Semi sweet, cooked with a touch of coconut milk, one sip and we were hooked..."star" dish of the night.

Mixed Greens
Cannot say the same about the mix greens though.

Hom Malee + Brown Rice
Dinner is served with Jasmine Rice (Hom Malee) + Brown Rice (RM3/pax). Very healthy.

Total bill for the night came up to RM50.00. We will definitely come back and maybe with a bigger group so that we can try our more dishes.

TGI Friday's Malaysia

TGI Friday's Malaysia is a Western food chain in Malaysia and best known for its relaxing atmosphere where families and individuals can have a good time and experience. For Ryan's 14th birthday, he chose to celebrate at TGIF Sunway Pyramids.

We start with main course as the serving in TGIF is hugh. Ghee and I tried their new menu, American Taste Tour.

Chicago Braised Short Ribs
Ghee ordered Chicago Braised Short Ribs. It is served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, bell pepper, french beans and broccoli. The short ribs were very tender but it was not something that I would recommend or reorder the next time I visit TGIF.

Los Angeles Almond Chicken Salad
My Los Angeles Almond Chicken salad is also not something that I would recommend as the crispy almond-crusted chicken taste like compact saw dust.

New York Strip
Randy ordered New York Strip. Look appertising but I dare not try as Randy ordered his meat rare. I cannot stand to see the red meat in its rare state.

Key West Whitefish
Poh Poh ordered Key West Whitefish, roasted mild whitefish topped with a sparkling citrus splash, served with seasonal vegetables and herb rice. Poh Poh seems to enjoyed her meal. Must be good.

Jack Daniel's Chicken
Ryan ordered Jack Daniel's® Chicken, juicy chicken breasts basted in a sweet savory glaze, served with seasonal vegetables, cheddar cheese mashed potatoes and the original Jack Daniel's® sauce.

Chocolate Oreo Mint Crunch
and Snickers Treat
We had a good time despite the average tasting food . Ryan was asked to stand on the chair and use the ketchup bottle as his mike to make a speech and the waiters sang for him.

He was also given a complementary piece of chocolate cake and he gets to try out two petite desserts, Chocolate Oreo Mint Crunch and Snickers Treat, scratch and win prizes from the two American Taste Tour meal that Ghee and I ordered.

Restorant Chee Xiang

Restaurant Chee Xiang
No 205 Main Road Kanan, Batu 11
Jalan Kampong Baru, Cheras
43200 Kajang, Selangor
TEL: 6019 3111390

On the way back from Kajang, we stopped for lunch at this restaurant. According to my colleagues, they have extended the restaurant from a small shack. They are located along the main road in Batu 11 and this is my first time here.

We ordered a plate of char siew, roast duck and blanched bean sprouts.

Char Siew
The char siew is half lean and half fatty meat. Not too sweet and it melts in the mouth. They give us a bowl of the char siew sauce which is great with rice. I totally agree with my colleagues who have come here many times that this place has the BEST char siew.

Roast Duck
The roast duck is not too fatty and not too tough. Yummy. The bean sprouts are short and very crunchy.

Bean Sprout
Lunch was super delicious and the total bill came up to RM73.00 for our party of seven including drinks (Chinese tea).

Will definitely come back for more char siew :)

Tiam Fatt Restaurant - Taman Melawati

Tiam Fatt Restaurant
No 19, Jalan Bandar 1,
Taman Melawati, Hulu Kelang,
53100 Kuala Lumpur
TEL: 603 41056715
Open 10am – 10pm (Closed on Tuesday)

Ngau Yok Hor
Dry Pan Mee
Tiam Fatt like any other Chinese restaurant, sells Tai Chow regulars like Hokkien mee, Wat Tan Hor, Ngau Yok Hor and ala carte vegetable, meat and seafood dishes. Outside the restaurant, they sell Chao Zhou yee mee and the pan mee (only available until 2.30pm). The other 2 stalls outside the restaurant sells the best yam cake and char kuay teow in town. You need to go early if you want the yam cake as usually by lunch time, it's sold out.

We patronize this restuarant for lunch and most time, we either order the tai chow or order char kuay teow or pan mee from the stalls outside. Today, we decided to try out their ala carte dishes. For our party of three, we ordered steam fei chow fish Teow Chew style, long beans with roast pork and steam eggs.

Steam Fei Chow
The steam fei chow Teow Chew style is really good. The fei chow fish does not have muddy smell. It is steamed with tofu, the right amount of ham choy, tomato, lean meat and topped with Chinese parsley. The gravy is great with white rice.

Long Beans with Roast Pork
The long beans are fried with onions, carrot and roast pork. Yummy.

Steam Eggs
The steam egg is very smooth. Great meal and our total bill came up to RM53.00 including drinks.

Their Hokkien mee is worth a try though. Fragrant, oily and doused in a generous portion of soy sauce, it has been touted as Melawati’s finest Hokkien mee. Those who love sinful, crispy fried pork lard will be happy to know that the dish comes complete with it.

We ordered Siam Fried Rice and Nyonya Ice Kacang.

Siam Fried Rice

The Siam fried rice is tasty and the portion is really big. It served with deep fried chicken fillet and some cucumber slices. Each plate cost RM5.90.

Radish and Carrot Soup
We were also given a bowl each, free radish and carrot soup. I like the soup. It's sweet (cheng thim) but not like those that's added with lots of MSG.

Nyonya Ice Kacang
The nyonya ice kacang is very refreshing. It's shaved ice with peanuts, cincau, coco-de-nata, red beans, sweet corns and cendol. Ho Chiak!

Lim Mee Yoke SS2 Chow Yang is famous for their Har Mee but there are many stalls selling great food in this coffee shop. If you are in this coffee shop do try out their...

Char Kuay Teow
Char Kuay Teow...the stall owner has a funny way of telling his customers when he is taking his break. If you see him drinking his stout, that means he is not frying anymore even if you beg him to :(

Curry Mee
Curry Mee...the lady who sells curry me also sells asam laksa.

Konlow Chee Yok Fun
Chee Yok Fun Soup

Chicken Teriyaki Set
Daidomon specializes in yakiniku (grilled meat) buffet but we did not go for the BBQ as it's lunch time and too rush for us. We ordered the set meals, shake teriyaki set and chicken teriyaki set. Later we found out that they also have buffet lunch which looks good but it was too late to cancel our order for the set lunch.

The set meal comes with refillable green tea, pickles, soup, tofu, salad, rice and fruits.

Will return one day to try the BBQ buffet.

SKH Riverview Seafood Village - Ulu Kelang

SKH Riverview Seafood Village
No 6 & 8, Lorong Embun 2,
Kuala Ampang, Hulu Kelang,
68000 Ampang,
Selangor Darul Ehsan
 TEL: 6016 683 1111, 6012 931 8566, 603 4252 3166
Business hour: 11.30am - 3.00pm, 5.30pm - 11.00pm
Email: desmond109@gmail.com

This is my second time having lunch in this restaurant. The first time was in 2009 for Chinese New Year "lou sang" lunch with my sales and marketing colleagues and my two Japanese guests. The restaurant was recommended by my colleague, Bee Foong. It is located in Ulu Klang residential area with plenty of parking space.

We ordered 4 dishes, clay pot KaiLan, Fei Chow Yee (fresh water fish) cooked with black fungus and tofu, deep fried tofu and pork ribs with lemon sauce for lunch. I was impressed by the captain who offered to order the dishes with less oil and less salt without us asking.

Claypot KaiLan
The kailan is cooked with shrimp paste, dried shrimp and chillies. Rather unique was of cooking vegetables, served sizzling hot in a clay pot. Very tasty.

Fei Chow Fish with
Black Fungus and Tofu
Fei Chow Yee is actually a cheap fresh water river fish but the way it's cooked, makes this dish very grand and elegant. The fish is deboned and steamed with tofu and black fungus and soy sauce. Very tasty but pretty expensive (RM30) as this fish is normally sold for no more than RM15 in most restaurants.

Fried Tofu
The homemade tofu is deep fried and served with grounded dried shrimp and slices of dried chillies. Crispy but could be tastier if served with Thai or regular chili sauce.
Pork Ribs

Baby pork ribs is cooked in lemon sauce. Served with onions and cucumber on a bed of lettuce. Tasty and great with white rice.
Jasmine Tea
Our total bill came up to RM106.00 including white rice and a pot of Jasmine tea.

Like the Chinese poem on the tea pot...translated by Ernest for I do not read Chinese.

Payment Terms
Interesting sign on payment terms...apart from cash or credit card, wonder how payment is made otherwise.

The restaurant seems to be popular with office people and businessmen. There was a table having whisky with their lunch when we were there and this is not even any festive season.

Nippon Yataimura - Bandar Utama

Nippon Yataimura Japanese Restaurant
Lot LG352, Lower Ground Floor,
1 Utama Shopping Centre,
Lebuh Bandar Utama,
47800 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan
Tel: +603-77278380/ +603-77283389
Fax: +603-42923152

My hubby and I went to Bandar Utama over the Raya holidays. After shopping we decided to have Japanese food for lunch. We were undecided, walked pass many Japanese restaurants at the old wing and finally settled for Nippon Yataimura which is located on the lower ground floor in between the old and the new wing of the mall. They have refurbished the place, like their interior decorations especially the lanterns with cat on one side and Japanese words on the other.

Black Pepper Chicken Set
Sanma K'yaki Set
My hubby ordered the black pepper chicken set and I ordered sanma k'yaki (fish) set. Both the set meal comes with miso soup, chawanmushi,   salad and Japanese white rice (they actually use Japanese rice!).

Both sets are served on hot plate (which is not hot at all), big portions and on the sweet side. My hubby left his chawanmushi untouched. I left the miso soup untouched. We were so full after the meal and had to skip dinner that night.

Chawanmushi
Our total bill came up to RM42.00 including 2 cold refillable green tea. It's value for money but not so delicious.

New Grand View Restaurant - Taman SEA

New Grand View restaurant is located at Taman SEA (one of the corner lot double storey shop facing the playground). During the day, this restaurant is run by another operator, selling hawker food but at night, it's Tai Chow. This non-aircond restaurant serves many nice dishes like seafood, noodles etc. My hubby and I patronized this restaurant frequently for noodles as well as Tai Chow.

Foo Kin Mien/Tai Lok Mien
Hokkien Mee (Chinese : 福建麵) or Tai Lok Mien is a dish of thick yellow noodles fried in thick black soy sauce (the darker the better) with pork lard. This dish is served mostly in Kuala Lumpur but now, I am sure it's readily available anywhere in Malaysia.

Tai Lok Mien in New Grand View is fried with normal cooking oil (suppose to be healthier but not so tasty), pork, prawns and sawi.

Sin Chow Mai
Sin Chow (Singapore) Fried Meehoon (Chinese : 星洲米粉) is rice noodles stir fried with various ingredients such as barbecued pork, fish cake, carrots etc. The American Chinese version uses curry powder. Interestingly, this dish did not originate from Singapore.

In New Grand View, Sin Chow Mai is fried with beansprout, white cabbage, char siew, eggs and spring onions. Great with their special sambal.

My hubby and I could not agree on whether to have meat or fish for dinner. Finally we settle for asam fish and kailan with roast pork. Fish to satisfy me and pork to satisfy my hubby.

Asam Fish
The asam fish is a complete dish. The fish is cooked with tomato, onions, brinjals, okra and lots of crushed lemongrass. The sauce looks like curry but has a sour twist. It is very tasty but a little too salty for me.

Kailan with Roast Pork
The Kailan with roast pork is so so only and my hubby is complaining that it was too salty for him as well. Wonder why both our dishes are on the salty side today?

New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice - Jalan Gasing

Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice is located at No 105 & 107, Jalan Gasing 10/1 Petaling Jaya.
TEL: 603 79560958
GPS: 3.107456, 101.65334

Founded by Mr Yan Khoon Yin in 1977, the shop in Jalan Gasing introduces the speciality of Ipoh, Bean Sprout (Nga Choi) Chicken to PJ folks and has since made a name for itself. It now occupies four shop lots with seating arrangements on both levels. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is friendly and efficient. They have branches at:
  • No 1, Jalan 13/149L Bandar Baru Seri Petaling
  • No 25G & 25A (Level 1), Mid Valley City
  • Lot 10 Shopping Centre Lower Ground
  • Kota Damansara, Dataran Sunway

For our party of 6, we ordered the poached chicken, bean sprouts, meat ball and fish ball soup, chicken liver (for my hubby) and from their new menu, char siew and fried siew yok. The gentlemen ordered the aromatic rice while we ladies, had Ipoh Hor Fun. I was actually undecided between rice and hor fun!

Poached Chicken
The poached chicken is served with soy sauce, cucumber slices and spring onions. The chicken skin is so soft and the meat is very tender. The cucumber soaked in soy sauce is crunchy and tasty. Great with the aromatic rice and Ipoh Hor Fun.

Chilli and ginger sauce
One very important thing at any chicken rice places is the quality of it’s chili sauce and in this regard, New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice did not disappoint. Apart from chilli sauce, they also provide ginger sauce to go with the poached chicken.

Ipoh Bean Sprouts
The bean sprouts (delivered daily from Ipoh) are blanched and served with the same soy sauce as the one in the poached chicken. Short and crunchy, topped with shreds of scallion, Chinese celery and a smidge of fresh chili, they’re utterly delicious.

Fried Siew Yok
Siew Yok is fried with spring onions, some chilli like sauce and black soy sauce, very tasty.

Char Siew
The Char Siew is so so only. The meat is a little hard. Siew Choo commented that her home cooked char siew taste better :) Both the fried siew yok and char siew is best eaten with rice instead of with hor fun soup.

Fish Ball Soup
Meat Ball Soup
The meat ball is very "springy" (tan nga) while the fish ball is so so only. Both the meat ball and fish ball soup is too sweet for me. Wonder whether the sweetness is from the chicken soup or added with msg. I was very thirsty after the meal.

Ipoh Hor Fun
Did not regret choosing Ipoh Hor Fun (kuay teow soup) over the aromatic rice. The hor fun is very smooth and tasty.

Our total bill came up to RM142.00 including drinks and a takeaway Ipoh Hor Fun with chicken.

Better to order less dishes to start and if need be, add on more later as the waiter is not able to advise whether one have ordered too much. We ended up with lots of poached chicken, fried siew yok and char siew left-over and had to ask for takeaway.
