Ipoh, Gunung Rapat is famous for Heong Peah (literally translated to Fragrant Biscuits), a traditional Chinese biscuit with crispy layer outside, soft malt sugar paste inside.
The brand that I normally buy is the widely marketed and commercialized
brand - Yee Hup. Today, my sister introduced me to another brand - Keong Kee Heong Peah, also from Gunung Rapat.
Keong Kee Heong Peah is baked the traditional way. The pastries are stuck onto the wall of an enclosed oven-like clay jar with burning coconut shells. The burnt coconut shells give Heong Peah, a unique aroma and thus it's name.
Whether it's Yee Hup's or Keong Kee's, Heong Peah is best eaten when it's freshly baked. I like both the brands even though I was told Yee Hup's is no longer made using the traditional oven.
When eating Heong Peah, make sure you have tissues or serving plates at hand in order not to create a mess.

Cheong Foh Café - Klang
After the disappointing Mee Hoon Kuih and cendol, my brother-in-law took me to Cheong Foh Café to try the famous coffee, toast and dry curry mee.
Cheong Foh Café is located at No 1 Lorong Gopeng/KU1, Dataran Ocean, 41400 Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Apparently the coffee shop is managed by the same family for over 50 years at the same spot. They are famous for coffee and homemade ‘kaya’ (coconut jam like bread spread).
I ordered Kopi Or Peng (iced coffee). I do not find the coffee special and too sweet. I still prefer the Kopi Or Peng from Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee in Section 17.
The toast is really good. Heard they also sell the kaya but it gets moldy very fast because they do not add preservative.
There are a number of stalls in the coffee shop selling noodles. Highly recommended to try the dry curry mee.
After going to 3 shops in Klang today, finally we found one that suit our taste buds :)

Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih House - Klang
Fatty Mee Hoon Kuih House
19 Lebuh Bangau, Taman Berkeley, Klang.
Opening hours: 10:00am – 11:00pm daily
Today, I was supposed to go back to my hometown to prepare for my Mom's death anniversary but my sister said she will take me to Klang to buy the stuff for the prayers instead of me driving 300+km.
So off to Klang we went. Most time, when in Klang, we will go for Bak Kut Teh but this time, we decided to try Mee Hoon Kuih for a change.
After tasting it, honestly, I did not find the Mee Hoon Kuih special so I asked my sister and her family whether they like it and they gave me the same answer.
So, the next time when we goes to Klang, Mee Hoon Kuih is out of the list of things to try!

Cendol Klang - Jalan Nanas, Klang
Today, we accidently found this cendol place which is supposed to be famous cendol stall in Klang.
Cendol Klang,
78, Jalan Nanas,
41400 Klang, Selangor D.E., MALAYSIA
* The cendol shop is located next to the shop selling Chinese prayer materials.
My sister was not very keen to eat the cendol as there was a strong smell as we entered the shop but since there are so many people eating there, we decided to order 2 bowls, 1 cendol biasa and 1 cendol with corn and pulut to try.
Luckily we only ordered 2 bowls as we did not quite like the cendol even though everyone told us it's famous and one of the best. We still believe Penand Road cendol is still the best cendol!

Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee
Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee.
Address: 14 Jalan 17/1A 46400 Petaling Jaya Selangor Malaysia.
Telephone: 60122267799
Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee was recommended by my brother-in-law's friend, "bah leh ko".
Ipoh Chang Jiang White Coffee is famous for their white coffee (of course!) but I must say they served the best "kopi or peng" too.
Their other speciality is the Ipoh "hor fun", flat rice noodle in clear soup, chock full
of delicious flavours and served with chicken strips and fish balls (made from tou fu fish), garnished
with chopped spring onions and fried garlic.
Another
popular item is steamed chicken which
goes well with the hor fun.
My hubby loves the "spare parts" which also goes well with the hor fun :)
This place is usually packed and to prevent confusion, every order will be issued a queue token.
Brunch today (8pax) cost RM81.00 for the hor fun and chicken and RM12.00 for the coffees.

Loong Foong Hong Kong Roast Duck
My sister has been telling me Loong Foong Hong Kong Roast duck is very good, even better than Sunrise's.
Today, my hubby and I decided to try them out. We arrived at around 7pm and the restaurant was already very crowded and there was a long queue at the roast duck stall.
Found a table right at the side of the roast duck stall and waited for half an hour before dinner was served but I must say, no regret. The duck rice is worth waiting for.
We ordered only roast duck and it came with special chilly sauce (similar to those served with chicken rice) and special duck sauce. The special duck sauce is great with white rice.
Will definitely come back :) Even thought they are very busy, the servers were very polite.

Delicious - Bandar Utama
Corn Beef & Chili Padi Spaghettini |
Homemake Pesto Spaghettini with Chargrilled Chicken |

We had a good time catching up and I promised Ying Jie that we will have another eating session before he heads back to Manchester for his studies.
Nyhavns Faergekro
This is my second trip to Copenhagen. We decided to take the metro to downtown for dinner and also check out the apotek outlets for our products. After walking around, we stopped at Nyhavns Faergekro for dinner.
As usual I will ask for authentic local food and the waitress recommended Entrecote and Stegt Flaesk.
Entrecote is beef grilled and served with grilled vegetables, handcut fries and homemade herb sauce. Shared some of Vivian's and I liked the taste.
Stegt Flæsk is a classic Danish dish. It is fried slices of pork on the bone with a creamy parsley sauce and potatoes. Super like this dish!
Stegt Flaesk goes very well with local beer...Tuborg. Another happy meal. Very satisfied.

Stadtkeller
Stadtkeller is a Swiss folklore restaurant. I've seen a travel show featuring this restaurant and since I'm in Lucerne, I have to try their food.
We arrived at the restaurant early and was told that the folklore show starts only at 8pm. We did not want to wait as there will be a big crowd for the Lucerne Music Festival later on.
Since we were not really that hungry, we opt for a light dish, bindenfleisch and cheese fondue.
Bindenfleisch is also known as Bündnerfleisch or Viande des Grisons. It is an air-dried meat that is produced in the canton of Graubunden, Switzerland.
Do I like the taste of bindenfleisch? Well, NO! It has a very funny taste and very salty. It is eaten with pickles.
After a few slices of the bindenfleisch, I decided to order tomato soup. The soup was not great either but better than the bindenfleisch.
Cheese fondue was the last dish to be served and I was looking forward to tasting it. Unfortunately, the cheese fondue was also a let down. Cheese fondue is usually eaten during winter but this restaurant serve them all year round.
The only thing that was great in this restaurant was it's house beer.
Frankly, this place is a novelty. Try once and will never go back again. If I ever go back, it is only for it's beer :)

Hotel Des Alpes
The Hotel Des Alpes has a long history and dining is accompanied with a sense of history and tradition. We sat outside, on the terrace along the river Reuss.
This is my first trip to Switzerland and I wanted to try traditional/authentic Swiss dishes....Veal Zurich style and butterfried lake fish fillet.
I had fish soup for starter. The warm fish soup was very tasty and great for the soul as the evening was rather chilly.
Main course was Veal Zurich style (sliced veal with mushrooms in a cream sauce, and buttered noodles). Vivian and I decided to share the main course to make room for ice cream. The cream sauce mushroom and veal was tasty. The buttered noodle looked like Shanghai noodle.
Salman ordered Butterfried lake fish fillets (butterfried lake fish fillets with almonds, boiled potatoes and leaf spinach). Apparently the fish was from River Reuss. I also noticed that Salman likes eating fish.
After dinner, we had rum and raisin ice cream as dessert. While we complaint about the cold, we still could not resist the ice cream :) There was rum in the ice cream unlike the ones we get back home.
I also had a glass of local beer, Eichhof Braugold beer. Enjoyed the view towards the Alps and the wooden bridge while eating our dinner.

Black Pearl Seafood Restaurant
Today is the day we leave Belgium for Switzerland...spending the weekend in Luzern before meeting another customer in Zurich. Vivian was craving for bouillabaisse, a dish she had eaten before at Brussel airport. Should have seen the way she looked for the restaurant :) Found the restaurant...it is called the Black Pearl Seafood Restaurant where we finally had our bouillabaisse.
The bouillabaisse was very tasty. I understand now why Vivian was frantically looking for it. Thanks Vivian for sharing this fabulous dish.
It is a soup dish with white fish. Yummy yummy.

We also shared a lobster salad which was equally tasty.
Not forgetting bread...the bread is so fresh and taste so good with or without the mustard paste. Thumbs up. Another great meal before we leave Belgium :)

Le Baan Thai
After many days of Western food, we finally had an Asian (Thai) meal at Le Baan Thai. The exterior of the restaurant is very cosy. As we were contemplating whether to have dinner at the restaurant, a gentlemen came out with some takeaway. We asked him about the food. He gave very good review and suggested that we try. I saw many Michelin award stickers at the main entrance. It was crowded and very difficult for us to get the waiter's attention. It took a while before one attends to us.
We ordered food to share...family style with white rice. We had mixed vegetable tofu, two different types of curries and prawn tom yum soup.
The prawn tom yum soup taste good but not spicy enough for me. Guess it's tailored for Westerners. A way from home and to have a chance to taste food that's familiar is always good even though not good enough :)
The green chicken curry was very tasty and authentic. The red duck curry was equally good.
Another great meal! So far away from home and still have the feel of home. Very happy.
Le Baan Thai allows owners of pets to bring in their pets while they dine. I'm not used to this culture. Unlike me (who kept quite even though I do not like seeing what I saw), Salman was complaining about it through out dinner.

Brasserie 't Stropke
From Paris, we went to Ghent, Belgium to meet another customer. My first time to Ghent, Belgium and like the city.
Had our lunch at Brasserie 't Stropke. A nice and cosy authentic atmosphere near the historic Castle of the Counts.
We had a table outside the brasserie which had a good view of Castle of the Counts. It was a bit chilly but the cool weather makes our tomato soup taste so much better :) Our soup was served in a nice little pot. Rather authentic.
For main course, Vivian had a chicken dish with potatoes. Tried some of Vivian's....I like the potatoes. Definitely gained some kilos as I have not been exercising throughout the trip but kept on eating food which are high in carbs.
